Exploring the key themes of this years’ #DellTechForum

The #DellTechForum took place in Madinat Jumeirah on 27th November, welcoming guests ready to learn about the latest technological developments and solutions in the region. Digital Transformation  was the main theme of the event, but it was also an opportunity to uncover some interesting and inspiring initiatives ongoing at Dell Technologies.

Women in IT

At Dell Technologies, we truly believe in the importance of inclusion within the technology industry, to combat unconscious bias and ensure technology is being created with everyone in mind. This is something which was addressed in our 2030 goals, which included acquiring, developing and retaining women so they account for 50% of the company’s global workforce and 40% of global people managers.

In the MERAT region, Haidi Nossair, Marketing Director for MERAT is a huge advocate for supporting women throughout their technology careers. At the Dell Tech Forum in Dubai, she hosted a Women in IT session which discussed the key initiatives Dell Technologies has to empower women in the workplace, included a speech by Sarah Christensen of Christensen Consultancy and an insightful panel discussion.

The Women in IT session was insightful for women at all stages of their careers, giving practical advice around preparing for the future workplace and expanding your network, as well as providing an opportunity to meet like-minded people from the industry.

An Environmental Focus

As we transition into the digital future, sustainability is crucial for technology and society to truly advance. This was a huge focus at this years’ Dell Tech Forum in Dubai, which took the opportunity to highlight the environmental moonshot goals announced at the Dell Tech Summit earlier in the month. These include:

  • Recycle an equivalent product for every product a customer buys
  • Lead the circular economy with more than half of all product content being made from recycled or renewable material
  • Use 100% recycled or renewable material in all packaging
  • Deliver future-ready skills development for workers in their supply chain
  • Drive a comprehensive science-based climate program, setting emissions goals across facilities, supply chain and operations to customer use of our products including partnering with suppliers to meet a greenhouse gas emissions reduction target of 60% per unit revenue by 2030

Innovation and new technology has huge potential to help combat environmental issues and should be kept at the heart of everything we do within the technology industry, from small initiatives to huge goals.

How to think for the future

While digital transformation was the overarching theme of the event, preparing ourselves for the future is something which was addressed in John Senai’s guest keynote speech. Senai explored the different ways we make decisions, in a world which is moving from rules to choices.

In an inspiring speech, Senai explained why FOREsight is what we need to be successful thinkers and technology drivers for tomorrows world. He discussed how a combination of wisdom and curiosity will allow us to be open to change and excited to drive it forwards.
