Changing the Game for Nol-Tec Systems

Meeting customer expectations in heavily regulated industries can be a massive challenge, especially if you’re doing so with an inconsistent, aging infrastructure. The small IT staff at Nol-Tec Systems knew this first hand, as they struggled to keep up with managing the lifecycle of multiple designs and configurations found across their data center.

To compete with much larger competitors on a global scale and comply with ever-changing EPA standards and OSHA regulations, Nol-Tec Systems met the challenge by modernizing their infrastructure. Deploying VMware Cloud Foundation with PowerEdge servers changed the game for this company and their employees, allowing them to remain competitive on the global stage and proactively support the rapid growth of IT across their business.

The company chose VMware Cloud Foundation and PowerEdge servers to quickly deploy and easily manage a new software-defined data center (SDDC) in a standardized hyperconverged architecture. Lifecycle management is now simplified and provides improved operational visibility and security. Nol-Tec can now take full advantage of the modern compute, networking and security infrastructure with VMware’s vSphere, vSAN, and NSX, providing exceptional agility, consistency and simplicity.

“VMware Cloud Foundation provides a private cloud with all the capabilities of a public cloud, but it runs in our own software-defined data center,” said Dustin Plank, IT Manager at Nol-Tec systems.

The company chose Dell EMC PowerEdge R740xd rack servers with NVIDIA Tesla P4 GPUs to run Cloud Foundation and disaster recovery, and support the VDI compute/management workload domain. PowerEdge offered an ideal mix of performance and flexibility as well as a flexible and adaptable architecture to keep pace with changing business requirements. “Best of all, our new IT infrastructure runs exponentially faster on PowerEdge servers. It’s like comparing a Ferrari to a Pinto,” said Plank.

The staff relies on PowerEdge to run general workloads with VMware Workspace ONE to support the Horizon-based VDI as they work from home and remotely across the globe. The VDI solution provides engineering with the high availability it needs to access CAD workloads, manufacturing, supply chain and customer relationship management applications. This flexibility has also significantly increased performance across the Nol-Tec workforce.

“Nol-Tec chose VMware Cloud Foundation running on PowerEdge servers, because they have the best integration with Cloud Foundation in the industry. The team knew they would never have to worry about incompatibility issues on the hardware level with firmware or drivers,“ said Plank.

As Nol-Tec grows and prepares for the future with VMware Cloud Foundation running on PowerEdge servers, it now has the ability to burst to the public cloud to support the company’s expanding demands.
