Customers, Partners & Rock Stars – Oh My! EMC World 2014 So Far

It was another jam-packed day on Tuesday at EMC World 2014!  There was so much to see and do, but I’ve managed to recap the data protection highlights here:

Global Parter Summit

EMC Channel Partners gathered at the Global Partner Summit where they got to hear what’s new at EMC including the Data Domain DD2200, which was publicly announced on Monday.  The new DD2200 fits well with the EMC World theme this year by redefining data protection for the midmarket.  So now small to midsize customers can backup 36 TB in under 8 hours, protect up to 860 TB of logical capacity and support up to 60 backup/archive streams.  The DD2200’s partner in crime is the new VNXe3200, also announced recently.  The combination of these two products enables EMC to offer a storage and data protection solution that brings enterprise class capabilities to the midmarket.  Make sure to check out this redefining solution in the EMC Store!

Key Note: Data Protection Unplugged to Amped Up

Later in the day, division President Guy Churchward and CTO Stephen Manley presented the data protection and availability keynote.  Using a brilliant music analogy, Guy discussed the waves of change that have been occurring with how data is stored, accessed and protected and how EMC is innovating to meet a variety of customers’ needs across the entire data protection continuum from archiving to availability.  In addition, Stephen conducted lively interviews with Sub-Zero Wolf, Wells Fargo and Nielsen.  These customers spoke to how EMC’s data protection solutions allowed them to transform their infrastructure and see dramatic reductions in backup times, cost, and complexity.  Before wrapping up the keynote, we even got a sneak peak at a new technology coming soon… 😉

Data Protection Amped Up

There were more great sessions for every product and solution under Data Protection and Availability.  Whatever product you’re interested in –  Data Domain, Avamar, NetWorker, VPLEX, RecoverPoint, Data Protection Advisor, SourceOne and Mozy – there’s a session for you!  There’s still plenty of time to catch additional sessions and try the Hands On Labs (HOLs). So, check out the entire schedule here.

Booth #614 also continued to rock.  The booth is heavily staffed with product experts that have been having some great conversations with customers and partners around all things data protection.  Plus, there is a ton of other fun stuff going on from a twitter vending machine stocked with cool prizes to a sweet rock band set up.  If you haven’t yet, make sure to stop by!  For more information on the latest and greatest announcements and technologies look here.
