Since the announcement of TwinStrata’s acquisition last July we have been working hard on the first major release of CloudArray designed to EMC’s rigorous product standards.  Today, with the launch of EMC CloudArray 5.0, all the work pays off as we deliver an updated version of CloudArray that takes everything our customers know and love about CloudArray, adds new features, additional supported clouds and improves usability. A thoroughly updated user interface and a refreshed line of software and hardware appliances are the final touches in a revised CloudArray product that delivers higher levels of quality and performance than ever before.

Here’s a quick peek at what’s new:

  • Additional cloud provider support for EMC ViPR and Elastic Cloud Storage (ECS). These providers join the expansive list of cloud providers that CloudArray already supports. And as before, CloudArray users will have the ability to simultaneously support multiple clouds and easily migrate data between them. So whether customers are looking to use a public, private or hybrid cloud solution, CloudArray provides the connections they need.
  • A refreshed set of hardware appliances ranging from 12TB to 80TB of onboard, usable cache storage. CloudArray has refreshed its hardware appliance to better meet the needs of customers. This new generation of appliances features faster CPUs and bus architectures that enhance performance and improve throughput.
  • Usability improvements. In addition to hardware upgrades, this release of CloudArray also offers significant usability changes to improve customer experience. More robust network configuration tools support expanded network topologies that include proxy configurations. A new interface helps simplify certificate management. To make performance tuning a snap, a WAN/cloud performance optimizer now automates adjustments based on available bandwidth to the cloud.
  • A sleeker user interface. In addition to the appliance and performance enhancements, this release also includes an updated user interface that includes an easier rapid configurator and cleaner, more intuitive navigation

Despite these improvements, what hasn’t changed is CloudArray’s sophisticated caching capability and its rich feature set.  CloudArray continues to enable customers to take advantage of the scalability and affordability of object storage to save themselves both time and money. Local caching, physical and virtual form factors, and API translation, make CloudArray the perfect choice for customers looking to integrate public and private cloud storage into their existing infrastructure.

This release represents a cloud-integrated synergy that is the start of even deeper integration with the EMC product portfolio. As I said in a prior blog post,  the proliferation of CloudArray technology enables virtually any organization to enjoy the operational and economic benefits of a hybrid cloud storage strategy. Today, we have taken another step closer to that reality!
