EMC Named a Leader in Smart Process Applications

As EMC’s Information Intelligence Group (IIG) marches toward its mission to transform business with cloud solutions that connect information to work, it is phenomenal to see what we believe to be validation from the analyst community. Just as Pivotal Initiative is focused on Big Data and Fast Data Apps, IIG is focused on what Forrester calls Smart Process Applications.

In the new report: “The Forrester WaveTM: Smart Process Applications, Q2 2013”, Forrester Research, Inc. ranks EMC as a “Leader” with the strongest current offering.

Receiving top scores for BPM, document capture and document output, analytics, mobility, and integrated platform, EMC leads in most functional categories of current offering and has numerous clients for cross-industry or vertical-specific smart process applications.

According to the report, “smart process applications are a new and emerging category of applications designed to help CIOs and their firms improve the effectiveness of their human-centric business activities.”

The goal of using a smart process application is to increase the productivity of people actively engaged in a highly collaborative business process or set of activities. The five key elements of a smart process app are¹:

When we look at these key attributes, EMC offers it all.

There are many types of vertical and horizontal industry applications involving collaborative business activities that can be classified as a smart process app. Examples of smart process apps include contract lifecycle management, supplier risk and performance management, customer service and support management, advanced supply chain planning and scheduling, new customer on-boarding, loan servicing, benefits administration, provider care management, and more.

Software applications alone do not make an application a smart process app. Rather, how the solution addresses the business process and activity are what determines a smart process app. Today, EMC has over 80 EMC Certified Solutions (visit our online solution catalog)  available today provided by IIG, partners, and systems integrators, who have developed solutions that can be classified as smart process apps.

As you see, this portfolio of offerings is squarely in the center of what makes a smart process app. At the end of 2012, we released new versions for many of these products including EMC Documentum xCP 2.0 and EMC Captiva 7.0.

To further help organizations to take advantage of the Captiva 7.0 release, EMC has introduced a new program called EMC Captiva Advanced Migration Exchange Out (CAMEO). This limited-time promotion provides a free evaluation Captiva 7.0 system for a period of 12 months to existing customers wishing to upgrade or new customer interested in migrating.

With Momentum at EMC World just around the corner, we are looking forward to sharing with you more insight into the latest products and solutions from IIG and how they address this growing market that Forrester is calling smart process apps.
