EMC World 2013, Day 2 Recap

Day 2 of EMC World kicked off with Paul Maritz and Joe Tucci’s keynote on the platform for next-generation cloud and big data applications. Here’s a great visual recap of their keynote, in case you missed it.

An anecdote that caught my attention was when Paul pointed out that a 747 on a single transatlantic flight generates 30 TB of data. Stories like these prove just how much enterprises need data storage capabilities that can both meet and anticipate their growing needs.

This leads nicely into EMC Isilon’s big announcements for Day 2 of EMC World 2013. Today, we announced the next generation of OneFS, Isilon’s industry-leading operating system for today’s enterprise. The new OneFS will include data deduplication and audit and security features, in addition to enhancements for object-oriented storage, Hadoop HFDS 2.0, and Syncplicity enterprise file sharing.

Later in the afternoon, Isilon president Bill Richter and CTO Nick Kirsch paid a visit to theCube to chat with Silicon Angle about ViPR software-defined storage and the business of big data storage for enterprise IT.

Tomorrow, we’re excited to dive deeper into OneFS during Bill Richter’s keynote. He’ll talk about how you can become an IT superhero and the Isilon product enhancements that will help your company on its journey of transformation. And I’m definitely looking forward to Bill’s customer panel with Rackspace, Bosch, and MLB’s Advanced Media group. To round out the keynote, Bill will be joined by Nick, and they’ll have a conversation about the future of enterprise storage.

Immediately following the keynote, Bill Richter will participate in EMC Backstage, where he’ll answer your Twitter questions, live. Submit them by using the hashtag #EMCBackstage for a personal response from Bill on the air.  If you’re not on-site at EMC World, you can still tweet us your questions and watch the live stream here. And as always, EMC Isilon will be providing you real-time updates all day from Twitter and Facebook.

Thank you for bringing us on your transformation journey. Check back tomorrow for a Day 3 recap!
