EMC’s Revitalized Strategy and Products to Address TCO and Deployment Challenges for Enterprise Content Management

Today, I’m excited to share that Gartner has published a dedicated research note (“EMC’s Revitalized Strategy and Products to Address TCO and Deployment Challenges for Enterprise Content Management,” Kenneth Chin and Karen M. Shegda, March 27, 2013) evaluating EMC’s Information Intelligence Group (IIG) content management strategy and recent enhancements to the Documentum 7.0 portfolio.

A little history: In November 2012, IIG announced a major wave of new product and solution enhancements – the largest in IIG history – all around Documentum, improving the user experience, providing flexible deployment options, and transforming business with high-value industry solutions. We re-emphasized our commitment to delivering the most robust and trusted enterprise content management (ECM) platform in the market.

It was well received.

Fast forward to today: The report highlights critical deployment challenges IT leaders, ECM strategists and enterprise architects face when deploying ECM applications, including lowered TCO, improved performance and faster implementation. But more importantly, it examines how we address these challenges. EMC’s revitalized content management strategy has focused on improving the user experience (through Documentum D2 and Documentum xCP 2.0), providing cloud alternatives (EMC OnDemand and Syncplicity) and more industry solutions (Documentum for Life Sciences and Documentum EPFM).

What does it mean to our customers?

It’s another proof point that Documentum provides customers with a cloud-ready platform and flexible deployment options. It includes advanced capabilities for security such as FIPS compliance, improved search for end user productivity, as well as online file sync, sharing and collaboration. In fact, in this same research, Gartner estimates that by 2015, 70% of enterprises will include a cloud file sharing and sync capability when implementing or upgrading enterprise content management applications.
