European IDC Mobility Conference

I recently had the honour of presenting the keynote speech at this year’s IDC Mobility conference. I’m all about mobility, so I took the opportunity to talk about the availability of mobile working solutions in the connected era and how Dell is contributing. I was really looking forward to presenting as there are several great opportunities that exist here in Europe. Dell has been a platinum sponsor of the event for several years and this year we had a stand featuring our current mobile products such as the Vostro A90 netbook as well our ultra light Latitude E4200 and E4300.

Over the past eight years the IDC Mobility Conference has developed into the leading mobile solutions event for decision makers. CIOs attend this forum to catch up on the latest mobility trends and listen to the experiences of others. The information available at the conference can positively influence their decision making processes, especially when looking to optimize existing solutions or implement new ones. IDC analysts and industry experts pull together the content to guarantee substantial information is provided.

I don’t think many people know that Europe is the leading region in the world when it comes to wireless Internet access. Eight out of the ten of the world’s most wired countries are in Europe as well as six out of the ten world’s countries with highest broadband subscription. These facts show Europe is connected and open to sharing thoughts and receiving ideas on how to keep this momentum going.

On the day, I highlighted some of Dell’s views on how the world is coming together to form the “Dawn of the Connected Era”. In Europe alone, visits to Facebook have increased by 153 percent year-on-year and the use of mobile devices has contributed to these numbers. It is not surprising that 62 percent of all PCs in Europe are laptops.

Dell has expanded its mobility solutions by 50 percent within the last year alone to fulfill these demands. From developing the most powerful mobile workstation in the world, the Precision M6400, to the creation of the Inspiron Mini 9, the first netbook on the planet with integrated 3G. The Dell Latitude ON connectivity technology provides near-instant access to business tools such as e-mail and Internet without having to wait for a full OS boot, while simultaneously providing enhanced battery life.

CIOs are pacing increased importance on laptop security features. Dell’s laptop security features include tracking and recovery with data deletion using GPS to determine the position of a lost notebook.
