Growing Into a New Technology Era

April: Tulips are blooming in Amsterdam. Canada Geese are migrating back home from their winter hangouts. And around the globe, Dell Enterprise Solutions has been launching new products and solutions for customers and partners. Here’s some more detail on what happened last month:

Teaming up on Storage Density

Scality joined us in a new partnership to offer the Dell SD7000-S for Scality RING environments. With 172 TB of raw capacity per rack unit, this offering is the industry’s densest object storage platform. It provides a solution for capacity-intensive file and object storage in content distribution, active archives, media and entertainment, and web and cloud environments.

Networking and Systems Management Updates

The networking team rolled out significant expansions to the networking portfolio. Our One Networking strategy for the campus with a new integrated wired and wireless solution that gives customers a next-generation cloud-based network management capability. Our N-Series L2/L3 switches are now fully integrated with Aerohive access points and HiveManager NG and are backed by Dell’s global services organization. Additionally, our OS10 Open Edition Software will serve an important role in our contribution to the new Software for Open Networking in the Cloud (SONiC) part of the open Compute Project (OCP) to provide our customers with the components to build full-functional networking software on Linux.

On the Server front, we announced new improvements and additions to the Dell OpenManage portfolio, which provides simple and efficient enterprise systems management. Dell Enterprise Validation also became the first North America team to achieve TMMi Certification, which is a huge win for Dell Enterprise Servers.

Zeroing in on HCI

April was a busy month for Cloud as well with significant expansions to our hyper-converged infrastructure portfolio aimed at helping customers simplify IT deployment, meet their immediate goals and prepare for the future. We now offer new Dell VMware Virtual SAN Ready Nodes and have added support for VMware Virtual SAN for its hybrid cloud platform. We also added VSAN to the Dell Hybrid Cloud Platform for VMware reference architecture program and updated Dell XC Series with the first Nutanix-based appliances, which incorporates new Intel Broadwell processors.  Our intent is to help customers migrate to hyper-converged infrastructure on their own terms by offering the industry’s most trusted HCI solutions.

Dell Opens its Cloud Technologies

At OpenStack Summit, we revealed the latest generation of our co-engineered Dell Red Hat OpenStack Cloud solution Version 5.0,  powered by Red Hat OpenStack Platform 8. This version implements an adaptive approach to cloud architecture by adding inventive extensions from the OpenStack community to Dell’s core reference architecture to deliver the promise of OpenStack with highly flexible and open reference architecture. No other cloud partnership in the industry has the same level of joint commitment, co-engineering, and expertise with OpenStack than the combination of Dell and Red Hat. It was also recognized by Network World as one of the “cool products” showcased at OpenStack Summit.  We held our inaugural Dell HPC Community meeting in Austin that served as a worldwide technical exchange for customers, partners and Dell executives.
