IMTS Wrap Up

Below is another post from Sarah Mercer, Program Lead on Dell OEM Group. This one is a wrap-up of this year's International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS):

—————————–

Wow, what a week!  90,000 of the best and brightest minds in manufacturing took over Chicago last week.  The Dell OEM team was at ground zero to see how the industry is changing the world with PC-based technology.

Here are some of our favorite showings:

The Mahr Federal team is helping NASCAR race car teams get a leg up on the competition.  Every part of this $50,000 USD  engine is tested and every spec you could ever want is measured in metrology labs.  You can read more about hi-tech racing here.

The "Siemens Smart Chopper" was built by Orange County Choppers and is powered by Siemens Technology.  It's the world's first custom built green chopper (it's all electric!).  Paul Teutul Sr. even made a guest appearance to show off his work.

This machine by Wenzel/Xspect Solutions is creating a 3D x-ray image (with the help of the computing power of 16 workstations!).  Very cool stuff.  You can throw a cell phone in here and you can divide up the mapping how you like and view the inside components.  Measurement is down to the submicron level.  I had the pleasure of talking with Giles Gaskell about the technology.  You can read a Q&A about the product in Gear Solutions.

This year was my first IMTS.  I learned so much about how the industrial space is using technology and my non-scientific brain was filled beyond capacity.  I'm looking forward to keeping up with our customers and seeing how we can help them change the game.
