Inside Flash with Sam Marraccini: Episode #16: Josh Goldstein XtremIO – VMWorld 2014

It’s hard to believe, but it has been a full year since InsideFlash Episode #13 when I last interviewed Josh Goldstein. Josh is the VP of Product Management & Marketing for XtremIO. A year ago at VMWorld 2013, XtremIO was in Directed Availability, and everyone wanted to know what exactly EMC was working on. The primary focus of XtremIO then was Virtual Desktop Infrastructure, VDI. The always on in-line deduplication at memory speeds made VDI a natural fit for XtremIO, and it continues to be a great use case.

Fast forward 12 months to VMWorld 2014, and XtremIO is the #1 All-Flash-Array in the market – Customers are voting with their budget – $300 million annual run rate – the fastest growing storage array in history, but the growth has been much more than sales. Additional functionality has directly resulted in additional use cases and customer deployments. The introduction of XIOS 2.4 introduced snapshots and XIOS 3.0 introduces in-line compression with NO performance impact. Expanding customer value beyond VDI, snapshots can directly impact how applications are deployed. By providing full performance to test/dev copies, customers can impact application deployment cycles and upgrades. Adding compression on top of deduplication further reduces the amount of data stored on Flash, extending the overall value proposition.

All that and we are just getting started. Here is my interview with Josh from VMWorld 2014.
