Reinforcing our commitment to interoperability: Dell Joins the DMTF Board of Directors

Ed. Note: This post was authored by Jon Hass, System Management Architect, Distinguished Engineer

Dell, along with the rest of the IT industry, relies on the development of standards in order to produce open, interoperable, standards-based products. The DMTF (Distributed Management Task Force) has been and continues to be a critical Standards Developing Organization that provides core standards for client and server platforms, storage, networking, and cloud management technologies. Dell is pleased to be joining the DMTF Board of Directors to reinforce its longstanding commitment and support for standards that enable customers to manage information technology resources in an efficient and interoperable fashion.

Many Dell products incorporate implementations of DMTF standards including:

  • SMBIOS – Desktops, Laptops, and Servers
  • DASH – Desktops, Laptops
  • SMASH – Servers
  • MCTP/PLDM – Desktops, Laptops, and Servers
  • OVF, CIMI, CADF – Virtualization and Cloud Management
  • SMI-S – Storage

Looking forward, interoperability across technology domains will become increasingly important as virtualization, shared and converged infrastructure, and cloud technology trends grow. Interoperability is dependent on consistency in many areas including security, network transport protocols, information and data models, which are all areas for which the DMTF has a history of providing standards. The DMTF also has membership from all aspects of the IT industry and is well positioned to provide leadership to further interoperability.

Dell continues to invest resources to support the DMTF and will work to provide leadership to address modern trends in software, hardware and solution manageability. To learn more about DMTF and Dell’s appointment to the board, please see the DMTF press release Dell Joins DMTF Board of Directors.
