How IoT and Video Surveillance are Making the World Safer, that’s the breakout session presented by friend of the podcast Ken Mills (@OtherKen) at Dell Technologies World 2018. I was able to catch up with Mills while the Expo Hall was being deconstructed, apologies for the construction noise in the background.
From the beginning, Dell EMC’s approach to surveillance solutions has been clear: provide an end-to-end design that’s tailored to your required surveillance workload by a first-tier vendor. Dell EMC Surveillance is recognized as the #1 surveillance infrastructure globally.*
Customers work with us in our surveillance labs to fine-tune Dell EMC hardware – from the edge, to the core, to the cloud – to maximise its performance for surveillance workloads. This includes benchmarking a range of combinations, testing for fault tolerance and high availability, and validating virtual and non-virtual architectures.
In episode #124 of The Source, I talked to Michele Stoehrer of V5 systems, a Dell EMC Partner, that has created a self-powered outdoor security and computing platform designed for the industrial IoT. The portable security solution, built on the Dell Internet Gateway, is designed to simplify the deployment process and accelerate the time to value.
In addition to the Gateway, the Dell OptiPlex XE3 has seen growing interest from video surveillance experts, particularly for use in outdoor stadiums. Available in a smaller mini tower and small form factor chassis with integrated wireless LAN, the OptiPlex XE3 offers OEM industrial-grade features, allowing the product to be integrated into larger equipment solutions.
As Mills describes it, though, video surveillance is no longer about collecting video, it’s about understanding what is happening at the device, at the edge and making real-time decisions.
