A year ago we introduced VSPEX Proven Infrastructure, a simple, efficient and flexible reference architecture-based cloud infrastructure — and today, we extended this infrastructure to Microsoft apps. With 1,300+ VSPEX systems sold by our channel partners in 2012 alone, it’s safe to say customers like what they see, but that was just our first act. Since then, we’ve worked hard with our partners and their customers to shape the next wave of VSPEX solutions focused on key business applications. Since applications are what power customers’ businesses – our newest solutions make it simpler and faster to deploy them.
Today, we’re extending the simplicity, efficiency and flexibility of VSPEX to Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle with new solutions that dramatically reduce the complexity of planning, sizing, and deploying environments supporting these critical applications. In addition, we’ve scaled VSPEX up from 250 virtual machines to 500.
VSPEX for virtualized Microsoft Exchange makes it simple and fast to deploy a virtualized Exchange instance scaling between 1,000 and 10,000 Exchange mailboxes. Additionally, for organizations with needs in the OLTP space, the new VSPEX for virtualized Microsoft SQL Server and VSPEX for virtualized Oracle solutions provide support for SQL Server and Oracle landscapes. They are flexible enough for small, yet critical database workloads, and also for large, enterprise-class workloads. As with any VSPEX solution, it’s not just about the getting the applications up and running, it’s also about effectively managing and most importantly protecting, backing up and restoring the applications and data. To that end, all of these feature EMC Unified Storage and EMC industry-leading Backup and Recovery technology. Backup is extremely important; cloud infrastructure isn’t complete without it.
To make sizing a VSPEX even simpler, we’ve created the VSPEX Sizing Tool. Our VSPEX-enabled channel partners can use this tool to assess customers’ needs and then identify the appropriate base VSPEX configuration to deploy.
Let’s expand a little bit on scaling of VSPEX. You can now deploy a single VSPEX that supports up to 500 VMs. We made sure to provide the ability to deploy the newly scaled-up VSPEX using Microsoft Windows Server 2012/Hyper-V or VMware vSphere. With this update, the Microsoft Windows Server 2012/Hyper-V solutions now leverage the VNX product line, offering equivalent scale whether a customer prefers VMware or Microsoft virtualization technology.
We also took advantage of an opportunity to work with another industry leader, Cisco, to certify two special VSPEX configurations as Microsoft Private Cloud Fast Track 3.0 solutions. We provide two VSPEX solutions jointly engineered by Cisco and EMC that are certified by Microsoft as a “small” or “enterprise” Microsoft Private Cloud Fast Track 3.0 solutions.
