How 5G is Enabling Teachers to Transform Education

5G is poised to initiate some of the biggest changes in education in over 100 years. And while discussion around 5G often focuses on more obvious applications such as autonomous vehicles, smart cities, and super-fast download speeds, just a fraction of the potential uses of 5G connectivity have even been thought of leaving the doors of opportunity wide open for everyone including educators in the Middle East.

Why 5G matters.

LTE is synonymous with 4G and it’s got significant bandwidth and capability improvements over 3G. The transition to 5G adds additional frequency bands, both in and around existing LTE (4G), as well as new millimeter wave (mmWave) spectrum that is pivotal to support massive mobile bandwidth, very low latency periods, and enhanced network capacity. As a leader in digital transformation, Dell Technologies will help define the underlying infrastructure and provide the fuel to power and drive the 5G network revolution.

One of the major technology components which will be enabled by 5G is the Internet of Things (IoT).  By connecting existing assets to the internet, teachers can improve their efficiency and performance. In our schools, this could include everything from automating menial administrative tasks like roll call, implementing student trackers for enhanced security, and monitoring children’s heart rate during PE and receive feedback in real time.

On an educational level, effective learning requires continuous feedback between teacher and student – something that’s not always possible in rural or less affluent environments where bandwidth and access are a problem. With 5G, these physical barriers will literally disappear, making way for more impactful learning opportunities through tactile internet learning. Dell EMC’s OEM solutions are positioned to deliver next generation solutions to telecom partners and support this fundamental shift in education.

Next-gen students deserve next-gen education.

5G technology and edge computing will reshape education with lightning speeds. From holographic teachers who can beam in to lead discussions on specialized topics to seamless virtual reality (VR) experiences that can enhance student engagement and even connected devices that could help close gaps in STEM teacher training, educators of the future require wireless networks that can meet students where they are and provide a diverse learning experience. 5G could also affect classroom size and offer flexibility where it is required, thus offering a more personalized approach to learning benefiting both special needs and gifted students.

5G is a revolution in cellular connectivity, not just an evolution.

Supporting the digital transformation efforts of schools and educational institutes, Dell Technologies is looking forward to enabling the future of an untethered, high-definition 5G world because right now, we know that education is just scratching the surface of what’s possible in the classroom!
